Looking to the Future 2008
While we don't expect Contra Costa to grow as rapidly as it has in the past - the number of people living in the county tripled between 1940 and 1950 and tripled again by 1990 - we do expect growth to continue. While the rate of growth will slow, Contra Costa is expected to continue to add households and jobs - and see attendant increases in demands on our transportation system - over the next 25 years.
"Looking to the Future: Issues and Policy Options" [PDF - 6.5 MB], which the Authority approved for release on May 28, 2008, looks at this expected growth and how it will affect transportation in Contra Costa and the Bay Area generally. The report describes the forecast increase in the number of households and jobs in the county, the expected effect of these increases on travel demand, and the issues these changes create as well as the other trends that will affect the transportation system.
