In Contra Costa, travel and commute information is provided through 511 Contra Costa, a comprehensive transportation demand management program which promotes alternatives to the single occupant vehicle. These efforts reduce traffic congestion and improve air quality by maximizing the use of the existing roadway system. Examples of the types of commute alternative projects that are implemented by 511 Contra Costa staff encourage carpooling, vanpooling, telecommuting, biking, transit, and walking. The programs demonstrate quantifiable results on an annual basis.
